After a life-changing event in 2018, James Meeker packed his bags and set off to travel the world. He has been to dozens of different countries and has documented the journey on social media. Currently, he is weathering the pandemic in Cairns, Australia.

What are some sacrifices you’ve faced to be able to live this life?

I can’t spend time with my friends and family in-person, especially while living across the world in Australia. Many relationships I build while travelling are temporary. Some people stay in touch after I leave and some don’t.

I also love having a dog, but this isn’t the lifestyle for one. So I’m always finding people with dogs and asking to take pictures with them. It’s not the same, but borrowing someone’s dog for a cuddle and some licks is great.

What drives you to keep doing this every day?

First off, I love it. There’s nothing I’d rather do. And second, I spent so much time selling off my old life. It would be a huge commitment to go back to the way things were. I’ve already set all of this in motion, so why not keep going and see where it takes me?
